McDonald’s leaves Bolivia

The global market leader for industrial fast food pulled out of Bolivia in January.

US restaurant chain McDonald’s tried in vain to reconcile local eating habits with its marketing concept. It is the first time that the firm quits a country completely. A documentary on YouTube entitled “Por qué quebró McDonalds en Bolivia” (Why McDonald’s failed in Bolivia) quotes cooks, sociologists and nutritionists who explain what went wrong. The food chain’s withdrawal in Bolivia was motivated this time by “social rejection”, they explained. (ph)
